Just finishing up this month with some random thoughts of things that fell through the blog cracks. At his 2-year checkup earlier this month, Tai weighed in at 26 lbs., 10 oz., and measured 33 1/2 inches in height. This was consistent with the 25th percentile arc that he's been on since birth. That, along with the fact that his parents are about 5-foot-9 and 5-foot-3, led the doctor to guesstimate that Tai will wind up around 5-foot-7. For some reason, this bit of "news" got at some of us. Doesn't the doctor know that children of Vietnamese immigrants can totally outgrow their parents?
Tai hasn't slept in the crib for months so we finally decided to break it down. Kind of conflicted over the crib and sleep in general. Some months Tai slept perfectly in the crib. Other times he cried like there was no tomorrow. In the end, he would stand up at night and shake the rails so hard we knew he wouldn't stay in there. We probably could have trained him better to sleep longer hours in the crib until he was older. But I don't know, there were just too many nights where it was too tempting for all of us to stay up late and play, whether it was at home with visitors or on the road during vacations. Those nights always threw our already haphazard attempts at sleep training out of whack.
Nowadays, Tai's trick is to get us to lie down with him on the tatami mats. Any time one of us tries to get up (more so with Mommy), he'll put his little hand on our forehead and push us and say "Down." Or he'll pat the pillow to show us where we should lay our head.
