We celebrated Tai's second birthday down in Torrance on the Fourth of July, a belated birthday party with family. Here is Tai's cake, featuring a who's who of characters—Big Bird and Elmo driving past Totoro, with Thomas the Train on the table covering. Tai was able to blow out the candle!

Needless to say, the chocolate dobash cake was delicious.

Some card maker has cornered the market on 2-year-old birthday boy cards, as evidenced by this popular choice that Tai happened to receive three of from different relatives.

Tai has a ways to go before playing basketball with Marisa and Kyle, but he had a fun time running around with them anyway.

Overall, the trip was a relaxing success. Along with much of Thu's family, we drove down from San Jose in two cars. We had nine people staying in one house, where there's normally only two, and when I lived there, three. I got to see what a house full of siblings is like—full of noise, activity, and fun. This was truly two families becoming one, living under one roof for a few nights. A good time was had by all, I hope.
